He has, together with Ian Kennaway, who received the same award in Prague this July, a significant contribution to the development of monument care in the Czech Republic after the fall of the totalitarian regime.
Both men were in the early 1990s in important positions by the influential British NGO The National Trust. This institution has a 120-year tradition of care for historical buildings and tangible cultural heritage, and is recognized throughout Europe level. Ian Kenneway and Jonathan Marsden soon offered their experience, support and help to Czech experts - they secured their internships in the UK, facilitated contacts with expert circles in Western Europe, and basically helped launch a new approach to historic installations of state castles and chateaus. Radically, thanks to their help, the nature of complex care for historical buildings and their furniture has also changed.
