Marek Výborný has decided to resign from his post as Chairman of KDU-ČSL. He will continue in this position until an extraordinary Congress on 25 January 2020 elects the new leader of the Christian Democrats. His resignation for family reasons follows the sudden death of his wife in September 2019 that made him the only parent of three children. “Being a parent is more than a politician; family is more than politics. And as Christian Democrats, we do not want just to say it,” stated Výborný, when he explained his reasons on Czech television.
He started to think about resigning immediately after the tragedy. “When I became Chairman of KDU-ČSL and when I became a member of the Czech Parliament, it was always after a discussion with my family: with my children and above all with my wife Markéta. She was an enormous support for me. And in the end, she was the one to carry the burden, as she took care of our home and children,” said Výborný.
