The Chamber of Deputies unanimously condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine. At an extraordinary meeting called by the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Markéta Pekarová Adamová, the Chairwoman of TOP 09, the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Czech Republic, Yevhen Perebyjnis, also spoke at the plenary session of the Chamber of Deputies. All 166 deputies present voted in favour of the resolution.
"We have woken up to a Europe in which Russia has started a war. The response of the civilised world must be immediate and decisive. Explosions are echoing through Ukrainian cities, with subways and shelters across the country filled with families with young children, according to witnesses. All of them are at this moment in time fearing for their very lives because of a dictator who is not afraid of anything. It is in the Czech Republic's vital interest not to be on the losing side and to help Ukraine as much as possible in this difficult moment. It is no longer just the future of our ally that is at stake here, but the future of all of us," said Markéta Pekarová Adamová, Chairwoman of TOP 09 and the Chamber of Deputies.
"Europe is experiencing its most difficult moment in many decades. Russia, led by Vladimir Putin, has finally decided to go to war and attack a free and democratic Ukraine. As the Czech Republic, we have recent experience and we know that Russian tanks can go very far. We clearly reject this act of war by Russia. At the same time, we have expressed our full support and complete solidarity with the Ukrainian people and the leaders of the Ukrainian Government. We fully support all the actions of the European Union and NATO against Russia, including economic sanctions," said Marek Výborný, chairman of the KDU-ČSL parliamentary club.
