G7 summit

On 26-27 May, Japan hosted the meeting of the G7 leaders. The summit focused on the global economy, foreign policy and the migration and refugee crisis. Donald Tusk, President of the European Council, and Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission, represented the EU at the summit.
Migration and refugee crisis

The G7 called for a global response to the crisis. Leaders committed to increase global assistance to meet the needs of refugees and their host communities. They called on financial institutions and bilateral donors to bolster their assistance. They also agreed to enhance legal channels for migration and encouraged the establishment of resettlement schemes.

Foreign policy

The rise of violent extremism and other challenges pose a serious threat to the existing rule based international order. The G7 recalled its special responsibility to lead international efforts to tackle these challenges.
eaders also focused on the situation in Ukraine, calling for the full implementation of the Minsk agreements. They recalled that the duration of existing sanctions is clearly linked to Russia's complete implementation of these agreements and its respect for Ukraine's sovereignty.

Global economy

On economy, leaders committed to use all policy tools, including monetary, fiscal and structural, to swiftly achieve a sustainable and balanced growth pattern. They reaffirmed their commitment to fight all forms of protectionism and to use trade to create economic opportunities for workers, consumers and firms. The G7 also discussed tax transparency.
