Tom Philipp is not only a member of parliament but also a rheumatologist who graduated from the Second Faculty of Medicine at Charles University in Prague. During his studies, he became a member of the student strike committee at the faculty in November 1989. He has been working as a physician at Thomayer University Hospital for more than thirty years. He has long been involved in public health and has held a number of significant management positions. He is currently the head of the Department of Rheumatology and Rehabilitation at the Third Faculty of Medicine of Charles University and Thomayer University Hospital, and chairman of the board of directors of the General Health Insurance Company. He is the author of scholarly publications in the fields of rheumatology, public health, healthcare management, and economics. From 1994 to 2024, he served continuously as a representative of the Prague 12 City District. He joined the KDU-ČSL in 2002, served as its vice-chairman, and also served as Deputy Minister of Health for four years. He was elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 2021 and was re-elected in 2025. In the Chamber, he focuses on healthcare and social care and has helped draft and advocate for a number of laws aimed at creating a stable and sustainable healthcare system. “For me, healthcare is about serving people—and that’s exactly why I enjoy finding ways to improve it. I believe that modern and accessible care can be provided with compassion, with respect for both patients and healthcare workers,” says Tom Philipp.
