Jan Grolich

Chiarman of KDU-ČSL, Governor of the South Moravian Region

He was born in 1984 in Brno and has lived in Velatice, in the Brno region, since childhood. From 1999 to 2003, he attended the Biskupské Gymnázium in Brno, and from 2003 to 2004, he attended the State Language School. From 2004 to 2009, he studied law at the Faculty of Law of Masaryk University. He completed his legal internship in Brno, but took his bar exams while serving as mayor. He no longer practices law professionally.

In the 2010 local elections, he was elected to the Velatice council as an independent candidate representing the KDU-ČSL, having headed the party’s candidate list. He also became mayor at that time. He was re-elected to both the council and as mayor in the 2014 and 2018 elections, this time as a member of the KDU-ČSL. In the 2016 regional elections, he was elected as a regional councilor for the South Moravian Region. He became vice-chairman of the South Moravian Regional Council’s Commission for Information Transparency and a member of the South Moravian Regional Assembly’s Committee for Regional Development, and since 2018 he has served as chairman of the KDU-ČSL councilors’ club. He was elected regional governor in 2020. He was re-elected in 2024. At the 2026 KDU-ČSL Congress in Ostrava, he became Chairman of the Party. In the 2026 elections to the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, he will run for the position of senator in District No. 57 – Vyškov.

In his free time, he is involved in amateur theater, attends concerts and music festivals, and plays soccer, floorball, and hockey. He is married.
